Eight people, all belonging to the same family, lost their lives in a fire in Yopougon. The fire broke out in a dwelling in the police city 2 of Yopougon, north-west of Abidjan, on the night of Wednesday 21 to Thursday 22 November.

Very little information circulates on the origins of this fire which took the lives of eight people, all members of the same family. But concordant sources evoke a short circuit.

The victims lived in an apartment in the Yopougon Toits Rouges police estate. They were surprised in their sleep by the fire, shortly after midnight. The screams emitted by the occupants of this two-room house alerted neighbors in the city and other people in the vicinity.

But neither the firefighters who arrived promptly at the scene of the disaster, nor the neighbors managed to extract the occupants of the house. The magnitude of the flames does not facilitate their task.

“The firefighters arrived quickly, it must be admitted, but they had serious difficulties in clearing their way and gaining access to the burning house” explained to Afrikmag, Jean Marc Ahoussi, student, living not far from the city. “They finally had to break down a wall at a neighbor’s house to put out the flames, but it was too late!” he regrets

“There is only the mother who was spared in this fire, because she had gone to a funeral wake”, adds our interlocutor, who affirms that it is about a widow and her children.

Arson has become commonplace in Côte d’Ivoire, to the point where one wonders when the end of the black series.

In Divo, on August 22, 2017, seven people, including a high school teacher, his five children, and his maid died in a fire. This tragedy occurred less than a month only after 09 members of a family perished in a fire in Grand Bassam, a seaside resort, located about forty kilometers from Abidjan.
