American rapper Big Pokey, a founding member of the Screwed Up Click collective, has tragically died at the age of 45 after collapsing onstage during a concert in Beaumont, Texas on Saturday, June 17th.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of our beloved Milton ‘Big Pokey’ Powell,” stated a press release from his spokesperson. “He was loved by his family, friends, and fans. In the coming days, we will announce how we will celebrate his career and, most importantly, how the public can pay their final respects.”
The cause of his death has not been disclosed, and the results of his autopsy are expected in the following days. A viral video circulating on social media shows him addressing the crowd with a microphone before collapsing on his back.
Big Pokey gained recognition with his 1999 album “The Hardest Pit in the Litter,” followed by “D-Game” and “Da Sky’s Da Limit.” Last year, he collaborated on the track “Southside Royalty Freestyle” with Megan Thee Stallion.
