Jacques Hojlo Proposes Solutions

Jacques Hojlo, the president of the Francophone Habitat Network (RHF) undertook a tour in several African countries. He was the main facilitator of a round table which brought together Monday, November 19 in Abidjan, several housing and sanitation professionals. The Town Hall of Treichville served as a framework for this meeting.

More than a hundred housing workers, land developers, housing promoters, landowners, participated in this round table. On the theme “Affordable and sustainable housing in the inclusive city: what land, what financing?”, the round table was an opportunity for Jacques Hojlo and his delegation to present the challenges on the issue of social housing.

For the speaker, the solutions to be envisaged to resolve the social housing crisis in Africa are at four levels. These are the control of land, financing by the public authorities, the adaptation of construction techniques to the sites, and the habitability of the area.

Jacques Hojlo makes land and government involvement in financing the paths to success for social housing programs.

“It is not possible to develop social housing projects without the contribution of public authorities. The support of States is essential in the implementation of such projects.

For Mr. Daniel Usher, president of the association of land developers, the difficulties should not lead to the negation of the already existing potential for social housing in Côte d’Ivoire.

“The framework exists. We need to come together to succeed in the bet, that of offering decent housing to the poorest populations in our countries”, declared Daniel Usher, to Afrikmag, at the end of the ceremony.
