Indeed, you will have to sacrifice part of your annual salary to buy a recent model. This therefore pushes lovers of the apple brand to splurge. Some go to the extreme like this Indian couple who did not hesitate to sell their 8-month-old baby to acquire an iPhone 14.

A baby against an iPhone

The 15th iteration of the iPhone was released in 2022 with a starting price of 1019€ which still makes people cringe. We can obviously conclude that this tariff is not within everyone’s reach. The Indian couple in question believed they had found the solution despite their meager income.

According to the DailyO media, they did not hesitate to carry out a financial transaction in exchange for their 8-month-old baby. They would have made enough money from it to buy the smartphone of their dreams and to take trips. During these escapades, the iPhone would even have allowed them to take beautiful photos and videos to feed their Instagram accounts.

Neighbors to the rescue

The Machiavellian plan was going well, but the situation seemed strange to the neighbors. The baby having disappeared and the couple being very happy with an overpriced smartphone, we obviously had to ask ourselves questions. The neighbors therefore had the good reflex to alert the police who intervened to put the mother of the baby sold under arrest.

She ended up confessing to the act and even confided that her husband planned to sell their 7-year-old daughter as well. As for the father, he is on the run and still wanted. The woman who bought the baby could nevertheless be apprehended.

This story is strangely reminiscent of that of a Chinese man who sold his right kidney to buy an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 in 2011. However, the sequence of events was not entirely favorable for the latter who had to face serious clinical complications. Indeed, he developed an infection nine years after this madness. His remaining kidney was affected in the absence of the second, renal failure was inevitable. He became disabled for life.
