A New Operating System Is Set To Compete With Android

Android and iOS are the biggest mobile operating systems and their influences extend to related fields as well. This duopoly has been going on for years already, but Google and Apple may have some competition soon.

After Huawei and its Harmony OS NEXT, another Chinese manufacturer could also take the tangent and part with Android, but this time voluntarily. Indeed, rumors are becoming persistent that Xiaomi is preparing an in-house operating system to replace Google’s mobile OS.

MIOS to style Android to the post

Even though the chair game is constant in the global smartphone market, Xiaomi is undeniably among the top 5 biggest sellers. Its users therefore represent a large part of the total Android base, but this could change in a few years. It is actually said that the Chinese manufacturer is developing its own operating system called MIOS. The OS would also be in Alpha phase currently before landing in Beta.

Besides the rumours, a famous leaker named @That_Kartikey recently revealed on Twitter the acquisition of the domain name mios.cn by Xiaomi in China. He also specifies that MIOS could initially equip the electric vehicles that the manufacturer has been preparing for a few years. Then, the deployment could continue step by step to arrive at smartphones and other electronic devices marketed by the brand.

The essential Android

Digital Chat Station, another leaker also claimed that MIOS could be an Android-based operating system like with Harmony OS in its early days. In this case, the Xiaomi OS will show compatibility with the AOSP (Android Open Source Program) platform. This support will then allow users to easily install Android applications (the famous APKs).

Nevertheless, the compatibility would have to be continuously reduced in order to switch to an independent operating system. It is therefore possible that the schema is identical to that of Harmony OS NEXT. If the scenario is confirmed, MIOS should obviously land on smartphones stamped Xiaomi, Redmi and perhaps POCO.
