Have you ever accepted an invitation to a restaurant with one of your crushes, without ever hoping that a romantic relationship would result? According to an American study published in June 2019, you are 1/3 in this case.

Give time to a man you don’t like? Without interest. Unless it offers you a dinner in the restaurant of your dreams, or at the bar that serves your favorite dish. Enough to lower your demands while you enjoy yourself, especially if he’s the one who invites you. This is what we call the “foodie call” (on the same model as the “bootie call” for sex), as revealed by an American study which concludes that a third of women accept a date to be able to eat without having to pay a penny.

To achieve this result, researchers Brian Collisson, Jennifer Howell and Trista Harig from Azusa Pacific University conducted two surveys. The first with 820 heterosexual women and the second with 327 others. They were asked the same question: have you ever accepted a “foodie call”? 23% of women answered “yes” in the first study compared to 33% in the second.

The researchers also noted that women who felt that accepting a free food date was socially acceptable were more likely to exhibit personality traits that bordered on psychopathy, Machiavellianism, and narcissism. However, we can’t help but think that stereotypes about gender roles also have something to do with this “foodie call” affair. Because nothing obliges a man to pay the bill just because he is a man. And women can absolutely afford to eat themselves without having to inflict unwanted company on themselves.
