Aminata Touré, former Prime Minister of Senegal and current President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE), did not mince her words towards President Macky Sall and his men. In a public statement, she firmly expressed her condemnation of the actions of the regime in place.
“I strongly condemn the actions perpetrated by Macky Sall and his men who undermine democracy and the rule of law in Senegal,” said Aminata Touré. In particular, she mentioned several cases of serious breaches, endangering the political stability of our country.
Among these shortcomings, Touré denounced the violent repression of peaceful demonstrations, the manipulation of justice for the benefit of the power in place and the restriction of the fundamental freedoms of citizens. According to her, these practices are incompatible with our democratic values and flout the rights of Senegalese.
The president of the ESEC also pointed to the many corruption cases surrounding the government of Macky Sall. She recalled that the fight against corruption was a strong promise of the president during his electoral campaign, but that these had proved to be in vain.
“Instead of tackling the glaring problems affecting our country, Macky Sall and his men prefer to protect each other and continue to take advantage of their position of power,” lamented Aminata Touré. She called on the Senegalese to be vigilant in the face of these practices and to mobilize to defend democratic principles.
Many voices were raised to support Aminata Touré in her statement. Politicians, members of civil society and ordinary citizens have expressed their disagreement with the actions of President Macky Sall and called his government to account.
It is essential that political leaders are held accountable for their actions and respect the democratic principles that guarantee social harmony and political stability. The Senegalese deserve a government that is transparent, honest and responsive to their concerns.
By strongly condemning the actions of Macky Sall and his men, Aminata Touré shows her determination to fight for a better Senegal. His voice joins those of many other defenders of human rights and democracy who fight every day for a fairer and more equitable future for all.
