Controversial Influencer Andrew Tate Indicted on Organized Crime and Rape Charges in Romania

Controversial influencer Andrew Tate has been indicted in Romania for “organizing a criminal group, human trafficking, and rape,” announced the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) on Tuesday.

Arrested in late December, Andrew and his brother Tristan, who is also implicated in the same crimes, remain under house arrest, as stated in the press release.

The two men are suspected of establishing a network in Romania at the beginning of 2021, as well as in other countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom, according to the same source. Seven victims have been identified by investigators. The Tate brothers deceived them by feigning affection (using the “loverboy” method) before coercing them through “acts of physical violence and psychological coercion” into participating in the production of pornographic films, detailed the prosecutors. Three of the victims have filed civil claims.

Regarding the rape charges, one of the suspects is accused of committing the acts on two occasions, as reported by DIICOT. Two Romanian women, who were arrested simultaneously, have also been charged. One is a former police officer, while the other is Andrew Tate’s girlfriend. The two brothers, maintaining their innocence, have been under house arrest near the capital city of Bucharest since late March, following three months of pretrial detention.

Andrew Tate is also facing allegations of sexual assault in the United Kingdom for incidents that occurred between 2013 and 2016.

He first gained recognition by participating in the reality show Big Brother in the UK in 2016. However, he was swiftly removed from the show after a video emerged showing him physically assaulting a woman.

Andrew later turned to social media, where he flaunts his muscular physique, smokes cigars, and captivates millions of teenagers with his luxury cars. He promotes masculinist ideologies and monetizes his advice to men on how to become wealthy. His name is among the most searched on Google.

In the past, he has been suspended from several social media platforms for misogynistic remarks. His Twitter account, now followed by nearly seven million subscribers, was reinstated after the social media platform was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk.
