Apple Is About To Pay Some iPhone Users

In 2017, Apple was mired in a big scandal that ended in a settlement. Indeed, the brand was accused of deliberately reducing the performance of some of these phones. The facts were then confirmed by GeekBench and then recognized by Apple. The scandal that bore the name Batterygate even earned a class action lawsuit against the firm in 2020. An agreement was then reached for $ 500 million to avoid a lawsuit.

Approximately $65 for each complainant

Three years later, Batterygate is back in the news, but probably for the last time. The damages will actually go to the plaintiffs who will receive approximately $65 each from Apple. However, it should be noted that eligible users are those who submitted a complaint before October 6, 2020.

In addition, the damages are limited to people who used the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and SE models during Batterygate or precisely before 2018. These users are already known and the 2020 class action lawsuit included only users who actually noticed a drop in performance.

Deliberately restrained smartphones

In reality, affected users were experiencing slow performance on their iPhones. However, people who were able to change their batteries later found that performance returned to normal. During the scandal, many users had also argued that the operation of the phones was deliberately slowed down by Apple who wanted to stimulate sales of its new models.

But even though Apple confirmed the throttling was intentional, the company said it did it for other reasons. According to Apple, the power consumption of the processors was reduced in order to prevent the phones from turning off on their own.

Moreover, it is impossible not to make a connection between batterygate and recent reports on the iPhone 14. Indeed, some users of this model say they have noticed a drastic drop in the level of their batteries. Well-known journalists as well as many Internet users have thus published captures which indicated falls of up to 88%. However, the release of the phone in question dates back just one (1) year and this obviously throws a chill on the iPhone 15 which should arrive in a few weeks.
