Arjen Robben has called it quits after being released by Bayern Munich at the end of last season.
The former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern winger has made 606 appearances and scored 210 goals in his 19-year career.
“I have decided to put an end to my career as a professional footballer. This is without doubt the most difficult decision I have had to make in my career. A decision where “heart” and “mind” are in play”Robben said in a statement.
“The love for the sport gives you the belief that you can still run the whole world, as opposed to the reality that not everything is working out the way you want it to and you’re not the 16-year-old boy who didn’t. no idea what an injury means.
Right now I am fit and healthy and as a fan of many other sports I want it to stay that way for the future.”he added.
The Dutchman started his career at Groningen before joining PSV. He later joined Chelsea where he spent three seasons, winning two consecutive Premier League titles.
In August 2007, he joined Real Madrid. With the Madrid club, he won La Liga before joining Bayern Munich in 2009.
Robben spent a decade at Bayern, where he won eight Bundesligas and the Champions League in 2013.
