This program aims to:
strengthen the capacities of students from the WAMU zone working in the areas of competence of the Central Bank (statistics, economics, monetary policy, finance, systems and means of payment) as well as in support professions, namely IT, l administration, human resources, legal affairs, records management;
improve the effectiveness of the Central Bank’s recruitment policy, thus enabling it to identify future employees to whom it provides practical training in its professions, in a work situation.
The Internship Program is open to students at the end of their cycle (Baccalaureate + 4 minimum) who must have their diploma validated by an internship in a company, sanctioned by the preparation and defense of an internship report or a dissertation.
I – What are the advantages of an internship at the BCEAO
An internship at the BCEAO offers the opportunity:
– to complete and reinforce, in a work situation, academic knowledge;
– to acquire professional experience in a leading monetary and financial institution;
– to benefit from sustained supervision for work on a theme chosen by the trainee or by the BCEAO
– to evolve and learn in a multicultural environment.
II – Who is the Internship Program for?
The Internship Program is for students who meet the following conditions:
– be a national of a WAMU Member State;
– be at least eighteen (18) years old and thirty (30) years old at most, with the exception of doctoral students for whom the age limit is set at thirty-five (35) years;
– be, on the date of the internship request, registered in the second cycle to obtain a diploma of Baccalaureate level + 4 at least. In this case, the candidate must provide a written recommendation from the establishment attended, attesting that he is actually registered and pursuing higher education or, where applicable, that the internship is compulsory for obtaining the current degree.
The student must choose one of the themes proposed by the BCEAO. However, he is free to present, apart from these proposals, a draft theme that he deems relevant, provided that this draft is of interest to the BCEAO.
III- How long is the internship?
The internship is granted for a period of three (3) months. It may be extended, by agreement of the parties, without the total duration of the stay at the Bank exceeding six (6) months.
IV – What are the terms and conditions of the internship at the BCEAO?
The BCEAO offers internship opportunities in sectors related to its core business, namely monetary policy, economic and statistical studies, payment systems, banking and microfinance activities.
However, depending on opportunities and needs, certain support professions, in particular information systems, administration, human resources, legal affairs and archive management, may be open to interns.
The course is organized at BCEAO Headquarters in Dakar and in its Main Agencies located in the eight (8) WAMU countries (Benin, Burkina, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo).
When residing in another country, the trainee himself carries out and pays for all the administrative procedures necessary for his arrival at the host site (travel, living and accommodation expenses). He must take out civil liability and health insurance for the duration of his internship.
The rights, duties and obligations of the parties as well as the terms of the internship will be specified in an internship agreement drawn up between the BCEAO, the intern and, where applicable, the home institution.
V – What are the material advantages offered to the trainee?
The intern is allocated a monthly internship allowance. The intern also has access to the following social services:
– the library.
– the Bank’s medical office for on-site medical consultations;
– the company catering service at the rates applicable to staff;
– sports and leisure facilities;
