Bill Simmons Expresses Frustration as Spotify Ends Meghan Markle and Harry’s $20 Million Podcast Deal

Bill Simmons, the head of podcast innovation and monetization at Spotify, has referred to Meghan Markle and Harry as “scammers.” On June 15, “Variety” announced the termination of the $20 million contract that bound the couple to the platform. The media outlet explained that Spotify expected more content. Meghan Markle had only recorded 12 episodes of her podcast “Archetypes,” featuring discussions with personalities like Serena Williams, Jameela Jamil, Paris Hilton, and Trevor Noah, addressing stereotypes about “good and bad mothers” and “engaged women.”

In his own podcast, Bill Simmons vehemently criticizes the Sussexes. “I wish I had been involved in Meghan and Harry‘s negotiations as they left Spotify,” he says, sarcastically suggesting, “We should have launched a podcast called ‘The Damn Scammers.’ I should get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom call I had with Harry, trying to help him come up with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories… They can go screw themselves, those con artists.”
