Claude Sarraute Passes Away at 95: Personalities Pay Tribute to Her Legacy

Claude Sarraute, the acclaimed French novelist, has sadly passed away at the age of 95 on June 20. Numerous personalities honored her memory on the same day during the “Grosses Têtes” radio show on RTL, revealing some details about the writer’s final moments.

Steevy Boulay, who had known Sarraute for many years, shared on air, “She truly embraced life… She was always up for a drink and a smoke; she did that until the end. She was quite a character, a legend, and everyone knew her. She was received like a queen.” He then added that she had passed away “naturally.” However, Sarraute had envisioned a different way to depart from this world. “She wanted to go to Switzerland and choose the date,” Boulay revealed.

Immediately, Laurent Ruquier took the floor to explain in detail what Sarraute had in mind. “She was indeed a member of the famous association for the right to die with dignity. For years, she told us that she would choose the moment and go to Switzerland. Until her final weeks, she continued to observe herself, to observe her last days, her end of life… She still had that journalist’s eye, curious about what was happening to her, curious about her own transformation, even physically. She was a journalist of herself,” he concluded.
