The United States won the 2019 Women’s World Cup. They beat the Netherlands (2-0) this Sunday in Lyon. Reigning world champions, the Americans won their fourth world title after those acquired in 1991, 1999 and 2015.
The United States are followed by Germany, two victories in the final. Since 2015, Donald Trump’s country has held the title of women’s world football champion.
In eight editions, the United States have never left the podium of the Women’s World Cup. Their worst result is a third place (1995, 2003 and 2007) while they were beaten once in the final (2011).
Unlike the United States and several other countries, the Netherlands had never played until the final.
Since the kick-off was given by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), only four nations have made it to the World Cup. These are the United States, Germany, Norway and Japan.
“Congratulations to the USA Women’s Soccer Team on their World Cup victory,” Donald Trump tweeted nearly two hours after the final whistle. “Nice and exciting match. America is proud of you all!“, he continued.
