Until now, canceling a subscription could prove to be a real obstacle course. The complex and sometimes confusing administrative procedures often wasted time and generated great frustration among consumers. However, from the aforementioned date, things will change significantly.

First of all, it should be noted that the new law aims to facilitate the termination of subscriptions involving, in particular, telephony, internet, insurance and many other services. Thus, consumers will have the option of canceling their subscription with a single click or by any other means online, without having to physically travel or send registered mail.

This novelty is part of a desire to make services more accessible and to strengthen consumer rights. Indeed, subscribers will now have the freedom to terminate their contract without commitment and without particular reason. In other words, they will no longer be forced to justify their decision to the operator or service provider.

Furthermore, it is important to note that the new law also provides for a maximum period of 48 hours for the termination to be carried out. Thus, once the termination request has been submitted, the subscription will be officially terminated within the following 48 hours at the latest. This aims to avoid the excessive delays often encountered by consumers during their cancellation procedures.

Finally, it is essential to remember that this simplification of the termination process applies to all subscriptions concluded after September 1, 2023. Subscriptions prior to this date must still follow the standard termination procedures, unless the suppliers of services voluntarily adopt the new provisions of the law.
