Following the response of ECOWAS, Mali and Burkina Faso…

For the past few weeks, Niger has been at the heart of the news due to its tense geopolitical situation. Indeed, the country has had to face various attacks from its neighbours, particularly Mali and Burkina Faso. Faced with these attacks, Niger had to retaliate to defend its territory and its population.

The worsening security situation in the region has led the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), as well as Mali and Burkina Faso, to express their concerns about the situation in Niger. In recent statements, they called for a peaceful resolution and dialogue between the conflicting parties.

However, Niger has responded firmly to these criticisms by emphasizing that the attacks against it are unjustified and cannot be tolerated. The country also recalled that it is ready to defend its sovereignty until the end.

Niger’s President, Mahamadou Issoufou, has publicly stated that Niger cannot stand idly by in the face of these attacks. He stressed that the security of his country is a top priority and that he will take all necessary measures to protect Nigeriens.

It should be recalled that Niger is confronted with terrorist groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS), which operate in the Sahel region. These groups have already carried out deadly attacks against Niger and its neighbours, causing numerous deaths and destabilizing the region.

In response to these attacks, Niger has intensified its military operations against terrorist groups. The country also benefits from the support of France in the fight against these armed groups. French forces are present in Niger as part of Operation Barkhane.

It is important to emphasize that Niger is not alone in this struggle. The international community, in particular the African Union and the United Nations, supports Niger’s efforts to restore peace and security in the region.

Despite the security challenges, Niger remains determined to pursue its economic and social development. The country has implemented reforms to attract foreign investment and stimulate economic growth. It has also taken steps to improve access to education and health services for its population.

In conclusion, Niger faces significant security challenges, but the country does not back down in the face of adversity. Niger is determined to protect its territory and its population against terrorist attacks. It enjoys the support of the international community in this fight and continues to pursue its economic and social development.
