Former Footballer Mark Batchelor Shot Dead Outside His Home

Former South African footballer and television presenter Mark Batchelor was shot dead by unknown assailants outside his home in Johannesburg.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed the incident. Two men on a motorcycle shot Batchelor as he pulled into the driveway of his Olivedale home Monday evening. The reason for the shooting is still not revealed.

“Police are investigating a murder case after a former football player, Marc Batchelor, was killed by two men riding a motorbike in Olivedale outside his home. He was shot multiple times and died in his vehicle. The suspects then left without taking anything.” The motive for the attack is still unknown. No one has been arrested,” Dlamini said.

Batchelor had close ties to several underworld figures and counted Mikey Schultz and Nafeez Modack among his friends.

The crime-fighting group Crime Air Network Initiative released photos of a bullet-riddled car that belonged to Batchelor. Batchelor, who had also worked as a television analyst and presenter, had invested in several companies since his retirement from football.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker was a colorful character who was involved in many high-profile altercations over the years.

He also testified in the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius, during which he gave evidence about the former Paralympian’s temperament. Pistorius had a run-in with a friend of Batchelor’s who the athlete suspected of being romantically linked to his model girlfriend at the time, Reeva Steenkamp.
