The decision to suspend the elections in these wards was not taken lightly, as INEC is committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections. However, the safety and security of voters, election officials, and other stakeholders must be prioritized.

The violence and irregularities that led to the suspension of the elections are deeply troubling and have no place in a democratic society. INEC must take swift and decisive action to address these issues and ensure that the affected wards can participate in the electoral process without fear or intimidation.

It is essential for INEC to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to investigate the incidents of violence and irregularities in Ogori/Magongo LGA. Perpetrators of any election-related offences must be held accountable to demonstrate that there are consequences for undermining the democratic process.

The suspension of elections in these nine wards is a setback for the electoral process in Kogi State. However, INEC must use this opportunity to review and strengthen its security measures and election management processes to prevent similar incidents from occurring in future elections.

It is crucial for all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, and voters, to uphold the principles of peaceful and transparent elections. The sanctity of the electoral process must be preserved to ensure that the will of the people is reflected in the outcome of the elections.

INEC has assured the public that it will announce a new date for the elections in the affected wards once the security situation has been resolved and appropriate measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of all participants.
