Kofi Annan Receives Posthumous Award




Former UN Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan died last year at the age of 80. In the name of service to his nation and the world, the late Kofi Annan is posthumously awarded the Honorary Award for Eminent Persons, for his immense contribution to the objectives of ECOWAS in the field of security, peace and socio-economic development.

This prize was awarded to him during the 55th ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS.

Born in Ghana in 1938, Kofi Annan was the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006.

He had been a member of ‘The Elders’, a group of global leaders working for human rights since its inception in 2007. In 2013, he became its president.

In 2001, Kofi Annan received the Nobel Peace Prize, jointly with the United Nations for their work “for a better organized and more peaceful world. He was married with three children.
