Five lions, including three cubs, have found sanctuary in the Poznan Zoo in western Poland after being evacuated from war-torn Ukraine, the establishment has announced. ‘The lions are safe and sound. They arrived here on Tuesday,’ said Remigiusz Kozinski, from the educational department of the Poznan Zoo, in a statement to AFP.
‘We didn’t need to sedate them upon their arrival. They entered their new enclosures calmly,’ he added. The male lion was separated from the lioness, who is with her three cubs. ‘They are adapting to the new conditions.’
The lions will stay in Poznan for at least a few weeks before being relocated to other facilities in different countries that will welcome them.
‘The evacuation of these majestic felines was made possible through collaboration between the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), Wild Animal Rescue, UAnimals, and the Poznan Zoo,’ stated IFAW in a press release on Wednesday.
