As the days go by, the matter Luis Rubiales caused a sensation in Spanish news. Remember, Spain’s leaders have been under fire since the coach kissed Jenni Hermoso on the sidelines of Spain’s victory in the Women’s World Cup final last August. The day before, the 33-year-old footballer decided to file a complaint with the Spanish Attorney General.
As AFP pointed out on Tuesday, the filing a complaint was crucial for the prosecution which opened the investigation for sexual assault against Luis Rubiales. The suspended president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, is in question. According to article 191 of the Spanish Penal Code, “kissing without consent may constitute sexual assault,” a category of crime that includes all forms of sexual violence. Penalties range from a fine to four years in prison.
