According to American media, the televised debates are expected to be animated with the participation of many Republican candidates. It is reported that former Vice President Mike Pence will announce his candidacy for the White House in the highly contested Republican primaries, challenging his former boss, Donald Trump. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is also expected to enter the race, joining eight other candidates.
On June 7th, which happens to be his 64th birthday, Mike Pence will release a video to officially launch his presidential campaign. He will then attend a rally in Iowa and later appear on the CNN stage in the evening, according to anonymous sources close to the matter.
As a devout evangelical Christian and a staunch opponent of abortion, Mike Pence served as the running mate during Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign in 2016, helping him secure support from the religious right in America.
However, his perspective shifted dramatically after he was endangered by some violent supporters who publicly called for his murder during the tragic events that took place while he presided over the session in Congress, where the lawmakers were supposed to certify Joe Biden as the winner of the recent presidential election.
Since this harrowing incident, which he believes was irresponsibly provoked by Donald Trump’s statements, he holds the former president directly or indirectly responsible for the disastrous consequences that followed the unprecedented attack on the Capitol.
Despite his efforts over the past several months, including the promotion of his book titled “So Help Me God” and numerous visits to key primary states, Mike Pence is polling at only 3.8% of voter intentions, compared to Donald Trump’s 53.2%, according to the RealClearPolitics website. He is also trailing behind Ron DeSantis (22.4%) and Nikki Haley (4.4%).
Other Republican figures, such as 60-year-old former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, have also entered this frantic race to the White House after distancing themselves from their former mentor following the tragic events at the Capitol.
This significant influx of candidates could potentially lead to vote dispersion, ultimately benefiting Donald Trump. However, the former president is currently facing several legal charges and various challenges.
