NEPAD officially became the African Union Development Agency. Called AUDA-NEPAD, it now has a well-defined legal mandate and identity.
The information had been lingering in the corridors of the African Union for some time. It is now done, the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) officially becomes the African Union (AU) Development Agency, abbreviated as AUDA-NEPAD. AUDA-NEPAD, whose texts were adopted by the Executive Council of the African Union on July 4 and 5, thus succeeds the NEPAD Agency.
During the conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in 2018, the Rwandan President, Paul Kagame, submitted the project to transform NEPAD into a development agency of the African Union, to his peers. This project, which was therefore one of the main proposals approved at the end of the meeting, was adopted last July during the assembly of the African Union in Nouakchott, Mauritania. It aims for better functioning and greater efficiency of the Pan-African institution.
Thanks to this new status, AUDA-NEPAD now has a clearly defined mandate and legal identity.
