Nicolas Sarkozy Will Be Tried For Corruption In The “Eavesdropping” Case

For the first time under the Fifth Republic, a former president will be tried for corruption. Nicolas Sarkozy, a political retiree since his defeat in the right-wing primary at the end of 2016, is suspected of having tried in early 2014, via his lawyer Thierry Herzog, to obtain secret information from Gilbert Azibert in a procedure concerning the seizure of his diaries in the Bettencourt case

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will be tried for corruption in the “wiretapping” affair. The Court of Cassation indeed rejected, on Tuesday, the last appeals brought by the former head of state, his lawyer Thierry Herzog and the former senior magistrate Gilbert Azibert to avoid a trial for ” corruption “ And ” Bribery “. MM. Herzog and Azibert will also be tried for “breach of professional secrecy”.

This trial, which promises to be a first for Nicolas Sarkozy, also threatened by the Bygmalion affair, should be held in Paris in the coming months. This will be the first trial of a former President of the Republic for corruption.

The case dates back to January 2014: the judges responsible for investigating the Gaddafi case – in which the former president is indicted – then discover that Nicolas Sarkozy and his lawyer Thierry Herzog are talking on “secret” mobile phones. We learn that the former president used (among other things) the now famous pseudonym “Paul Bismuth”.
