Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior Pastor and General Overseer of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) Church in Nigeria has resigned from his pastoral duties in the house of God.
Fatoyinbo made the announcement in a statement posted on his Instagram page. The pastor said he would be absent from the pulpit of the church.
The announcement comes a day after Nigerians stormed COZA venues in Lagos and Abuja on Sunday, June 30, 2019 to demand that the pastor step down.
Nigerians had staged the protest to demand justice for Busola, wife of Nigerian singer, Timi Dakolo, after she accused Fatoyinbo of sexually abusing her as a child. In his statement, Fatoyinbo, who says he is not afraid to stay away from his ministry, said he believed stepping aside was the right thing to do at the moment.
He said he does not want the issues concerning him to trickle down to his church members and prevent them from worshiping God. The pastor further noted that his trust in God remained unwavering.
It seems that Nigerians’ protest to get the pastor to resign until he is found innocent or guilty has worked.
