Former Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon arrested



Nicola Sturgeon, the former leader of the Scottish independence movement who resigned from her position in February, was apprehended on Sunday as part of an investigation into the funding of the Scottish National Party (SNP), according to British media reports.

The Scottish police have confirmed the arrest of a 52-year-old woman who is a suspect in this case, stating that she is currently being questioned after being taken into custody.

Searches have also been conducted at Nicola Sturgeon’s residence, as well as at the home of her husband, Peter Murrell, the former CEO of the SNP until mid-March, and at the party headquarters in Edinburgh.

The investigation focuses primarily on the use of £600,000 in donations collected in recent years to fund a new independence referendum that did not materialize due to London’s refusal. The media has also raised questions about a loan given by Nicola Sturgeon to the political party.
