Raymond Ndong Sima Appointed 1st Minister of Transition

Gabon is currently in full political transition, following the overthrow of President Ali Bongo by the military on August 30. In this context, General Brice Oligui Nguema, President of the transition, took a significant decision by appointing Raymond Ndong Sima as transitional Prime Minister.

Raymond Ndong Sima, aged 68, is a seasoned economist who had already served as Prime Minister under the presidency of Ali Bongo, from 2012 to 2014. However, he had gradually moved away from power, regularly criticizing governance in place. His disagreements even led him to present himself as a presidential candidate in the 2016 and 2023 elections, in opposition to the outgoing head of state.ù
