An investigation has been opened after a referee forced a wrestler to cut off his dreadlocks or risk being disqualified.

Video of the incident went viral on Twitter, sparking outrage among netizens. Some have accused referee Alan Maloney of racial discrimination. In 2016, he was accused of having made racist remarks against another referee. The video, shared by Mike Frankel of SNJ Today News has racked up millions of views since Friday.
Alan Maloney has been suspended pending the results of the investigation. The state’s civil rights division will also review the incident.
