Scholarship available 2023-2024

Recognizing the critical need for scientists and engineers in the Arab world and with the generous support and visionary leadership of Alumnus Yousef Jameel ’68, the AUC established the Yousef Jameel ’68 Doctoral Fellowships in Applied Science and engineering in the fall of 2010. The program is designed to prepare future scientists and industrial leaders who are Egyptian nationals and possess solid knowledge and skills in science and engineering.

The program aims to enable qualified Egyptian graduates in science and engineering to attend AUC on a completely free scholarship. The long-term objective of the program is to develop the research and development manpower in the region by providing the skills to future scientists who are easily recruited for important positions in Egypt and the region.

Eligibility

Open to all nationalities
Master of Science degree with a thesis in an engineering or science discipline from an accredited university
For new students seeking a graduate degree; meet the conditions AUC Graduate Admissions .
Submission of a satisfactory GRE score, as required by the doctoral program
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent
Submission of a previously proposed thesis topic and research plan, detailing how the topic relates to one or more of the priority research areas
Relevant training and experience in scientific research
Financial need

Duration

Three academic years, with a review each semester for satisfactory academic results.

Responsibilities of Fellows

The program requires a full-time research position in the AUC doctoral program, with no professional or outside professional commitment. In support of their professional training, fellows are assigned 30 hours per week of research and teaching work in the department, including nine hours of teaching assistantship.

By accepting this externally funded scholarship, the scholarship recipient agrees to respond to any report request received from the AUC within the timeframe communicated to the awarded scholarship recipient. This may include a request for photos or academic progress information to be used for reporting purposes or participation in scholarship events, including donor meetings or events, as requested by relevant academic entities.

Mandatory training in teaching assistantship must be taken in accordance with university requirements if the scholarship holder is involved in teaching assistantship.
