President Emmanuel Macron today reaffirmed that France’s Ambassador to Niger, Sylvain Itte, will remain in the country despite pressure from leaders of the recent coup. The French president also announced that France would support any military action undertaken by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Niger. This declaration testifies to France’s continued commitment to the stability of the region and its cooperation with regional organizations to resolve crises.
Macron confirmed that French envoy Sylvain Itte was in Niamey and listened to him during his speech, despite the 48-hour deadline given to leave the country. This decision underlines France’s determination to maintain an open and constructive dialogue with Niger despite the current diplomatic challenges.
