“The Church Is A Business. Most Pastors Are Fake” – Former Pastor Reveals

A former pastor shared a number of things he experienced during his years as a pastor and explains why he and his family decided to distance themselves from the religion.

Al Akhigbe said he was “a pastor who has practiced for over 15 years”. He reveals he had to leave because the church was “so egregious in the perpetration of evil” and it “made him uncomfortable”.

He explains that despite the privileges and money that come with being a pastor, he left because “as important as money was, it never really defined his life.”

According to him, while he was in church, he noticed many evil things that the rulers tried to justify. “Growing up in the pastoral ranks, I discovered, to my amazement, that God was just a facade. Everything we did, we did for the G-hoe. Anything else, we were doing it for greed. And my Bible condemns these things.” He argues.

He went on to say that the church is just a business and most people who claim they have visions are just people making inventions. “I decided a long time ago to distance myself , as well as my family, religion, religious leaders like pastors. I don’t care what anyone thinks. It’s a choice I made.

I don’t hate anyone. But, I don’t give that ecclesiastical look to anyone. Because most of them, if not all of them, are fakes. I myself have been a pastor for over 15 years. So I know. I have my ordination certificate, several meritorious service awards, which have had an impact locally and internationally.

But, I saw deception, shenanigan, jujuism, swindling, abuse, etc. and I was turned off. I became a lonely voice in the desert crying out against them. That’s probably why they decided to eliminate me.

(…) As important as money is, it has never really defined my life. Maybe I’m weird, I don’t know. I was in the world and knew how to do a lot of bad things. How could I be in the church as a Christian and we would make the act of doing wrong even worse?

When I believe in something, I believe in my spirit, my soul and my body. My zeal for the things of God (as I thought) made me grow into a church leader. Growing up in the pastoral ranks, I discovered, to my amazement, that God was just a facade. (…)

You should have known me when I was in church. This article is public and anyone who knew me can come and dispute it if I am lying. I always fought against what was against the people. Sometimes in meetings I chat with the senior pastor, using scriptures. And I will be told that the revelation was progressive and that God spoke directly to the man having the vision. Meaning: The Bible does not contain current information about the current leadership of the church.

Some of my colleagues were sent to try to advise me. My question was always: how can we say that we are children of God and that we indulge in acts worse than those of non-believers? They will tell me that there are different levels of grace.

If I tell people that I quit becoming a pastor, they’ll say, “How is that possible? Haven’t you been called before?”

Called? Do people actually believe in this nonsense “calling” thing?

Put it in your head now, the church is a business. Just as people thought and decided to choose fashion as their line of business, people also decided to go into church. It is the most lucrative business in Nigeria after politics.

They will start by telling you that God called them. It’s a lie. They called themselves or their pastors who called themselves, chose them to help spread their tentacles. (…)

Someone wakes up one day and tells you God called them. You think.
The big bible he carries?
Anyone can buy a large bible.

Frankly, it’s a feat to be able to withdraw from a church. To renounce a profession of pastor is still a feat.

It’s not easy to isolate yourself from people who have become family and friends. But, I had to do it for reasons of conscience.

I could no longer bear the systematic impoverishment of people.
I couldn’t bear to see the perpetuation of the lie.
I couldn’t bear to see abused women.
I could not bear to see a dirty policy (…)

I resigned and left. And since then, about 5 years ago, I have never been so at peace with myself. I hope to take the time to write a book about it very soon. It will be a biography. The names of people, places and events will be mentioned.
