Launched last July, Meta’s social network supposed to compete with X (Twitter) had a good period with records for precocity before falling. Indeed, the attendance rate has dropped drastically on Threads for a few weeks, but Mark Zuckerberg seems confident. The platform which was only available as an iOS or Android application is also becoming more accessible on Desktop. Users were actively demanding a web version and it is now done.
First draft for Threads on the web
Announced yesterday by Mark Zuckerberg, the new access portal differs from the rudimentary interface that existed from the beginnings of the social network. Now, the web version is more complete with interactive options. For example, users can post, view their feed, and react to Threads posts from their computers.
However, the Desktop version is not yet fully developed. We actually notice the absence of many features present on the Threads mobile applications. Currently, users are unable to edit their profiles or share Threads via Instagram DMs among others.

These limitations are obvious, however, because both the Desktop version and the mobile version are still in development. Remember that the platform was launched in a hurry to take advantage of the niche opened up by Twitter and its setbacks. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram (Threads’ basic social network) promises regular updates to make the platform more competitive.
What to expect next?
In addition to the web version, one of the most requested features relates to the search system, which still lacks precision. Indeed, Threads searches have so far been limited to accounts, but users want to find trending topics faster. We therefore suspect that their complaints will be taken into account as has always been the case since the beginnings of the social network. Also, search optimization could make the platform more interesting and really put it on Twitter level.
Finally, the availability of desktop support is certainly only a first step in making Threads more accessible. The initial project also included integration with Fédiverse, a decentralized protocol for social media on which Mastodon is based. And since it is already possible to verify a Threads profile on Mastodon, this support will not be long in coming.
