United States sanctions Imposed on Uganda over Controversial Anti-Homosexuality Law



The United States has recently taken sanction measures against the Ugandan government by restricting visas for its representatives. This decision comes in response to the adoption of a law by the contry Parliament on May 29, 2023, criminalizing homosexuality and imposing the death penalty for aggravated homosexuality, including the transmission of HIV during same-sex relations.

President Joe Biden has threatened to reduce the annual financial aid provided to Yoweri Museveni country following this controversial legislative move. Ugandan officials are also affected by the visa restrictions announced earlier by Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of State.

This new law has immediately drawn criticism from Western countries and potentially jeopardizes billions of dollars in foreign aid received by this African nation each year.”
