In 2022, a law was passed in the conservative state of Utah, USA, to prohibit books with pornographic or indecent content in schools. This legislation was extended to include the Bible following concerns raised by parents in Davis County, located north of Salt Lake City.
These parents believed that the sacred text contained stories depicting “incest, prostitution, and rape.” While this measure affects approximately 72,000 students in the district, it should be noted that the Bible remains accessible in high schools.

The concerns raised by these parents primarily focus on the Old Testament, which they believe contains stories of “incest, masturbation, sexual acts with animals, as well as prostitution…and even infanticide,” as reported by Ouest-France. The complaint filed on December 11th led to a thorough examination, ultimately resulting in the complete removal of all Bibles from primary and secondary school libraries.
It is also worth noting that in 2022, two other US states, Missouri and Texas, had temporarily implemented similar measures regarding these types of literary editions deemed offensive to certain student audiences.
